Ian Lowe

Also an eminent scientist, Professor Ian Lowe followed up in the second lecture by suggesting how science and the community might work together to shape a sustainable future.

Emeritus professor of science, technology and society at Griffith University, Ian Lowe has long worked collaboratively with the community. He is, for instance, a member of the Environmental Health Council and chairs Brisbane City Council's Urban Environment Advisory Committee. He has received the Queensland Premier's Millennium Award for Excellence in Science; the Prime Minister's Environmental Award for Outstanding Individual Achievement in the year 2000; and in 2002 won the Eureka Prize for Promotion of Science. In 1998, he was named Australian Humanist of the Year and in 1991 he delivered the Boyer Lectures for the ABC.
